17 Jun 2011 - Almouth

We expected a big difference in temperature from Spain to Uk, and we  came  prepared with our winter coats.   Just as well we did.  Despite the reports in the papers about the warmest spring for years, it was much cooler in Rothbury than it had been in Parcent.
Within an hour of arriving at Rothbury we were on our way to Almouth, where Jack has discovered the North Sea – and loves it.   We were all dressed for the cooler  weather, and Georgia did not seem at all worried.
Jack made for the beach, supervised by his dad
In no time  he  was right in the sea, up to his knees.   It must have been freezing, but he is a typical northerner and oblivious to the cold
It was lovely to see him enjoying himself so much, but it made  us feel even colder to see  him running into and out of the sea
After half an hour we  had enough, and even Jack was glad to get back to the cars and a change of clothes.

13 Jun 2011 – Javea (The Last, Last Walk of the Season)

Today’s walk was a bonus, we should have finished the spring season last Monday.  But because it was overcast and cool Pat suggested we meet today for a “short walk” from Javea harbour.
There were nine of us, which is pretty good considering most of the group are on holiday or back in UK for the summer

After climbing to the lighthouse, we walked to the windmills.   We were surprised to find that there has been considerable renovation, and new tourist information about the windmills, including a description in English.
There was no shade at the windmills, so we did not have lunch here.  But we did have a short break to enjoy the view.   Then it was on to the shaded picnic area for lunch.
This is without doubt my favourite view of Javea.   We were impressed when we first visited the windmills during our first year walking with the Monday Club, and it has never failed to impress each and every time we have visited since

We returned to the port down the same path we have climbed up.   Usually we return along the road, but this was a vast improvement.   As for a “short walk”, it was 3pm when we reached the bar – five very hot hours.   Just as well Pat had not planned a “long walk”.

Next Meeting
Our next walk will be on Monday 3 October at 10am.   It will again be Javea, but this time in the Masymas car park near Scallops.  We shall miss the good company and enjoyable walking, and look forward to seeing you all again in the autumn.

6 Jun 2011 – Last Walk of the Season

We are having a group lunch in Jalon to celebrate our last walk before the summer break.   So Pat suggested a short walk from Jalon to Alcalali to get some fresh air before the meal.   There are 13 for the lunch, but only nine of us for the walk.   Nice to have John along for the walk.
Pat had suggested a short walk, because it is often too hot to walk at this time of year.   However this year is an exception, and the summer has not yet arrived.   The sky was cloudy, which meant it was very comfortable walking.

I missed the joke – but it makes a good photograph
Mike, who led the walk, took a call half way around.   He insisted that he was not lost and calling a friend.  We were not so sure.
Pat was not sure we were going the right way, and pointed out Alcalali to make her point.
Margret was waiting for us when we got back to Jalon.   She hurt her back on holiday, and was not able to walk today.   Despite being in a lot of pain she insisted on joining us for lunch.   Just as well, no one else knew where we were eating.  We were joined by Heinz, Barry and Gwen who had all missed the walk.
The meal was at the private home of a German couple, who cater for parties of up to 16.  Both the meal and the company were excellent, and as we were the only ones there we could really relax and enjoy it.

Jan insisted I add this one, as it the only photo taken today to include me.

Next Week
As the weather was so reasonable today, Pat has suggested that we meet again next week.   We will meet at Javea Port at 1000 for another short walk.  This one will be up to the lighthouse and then along to the shaded picnic site for lunch.  If it is very hot we will then visit the windmills and return to the port.   If not too hot we will walk to the tower overlooking Denia .
